DDOSC joins Region XI SUCs in FOI Caravan

As part of the institution’s commitment to promoting a more transparent government, Davao de Oro State College took part in the Freedom of Information (FOI) Caravan for Davao Region State Universities and Colleges today at the University of Southeastern Philippines, Obrero, Davao City.

Themed “Beyond Access: Building an Informed and Empowered Davao Region Through FOI,” the event gathered FOI focal persons, Information personnel, and student leaders from all six SUCs in the region.

Krizia Casey P. Avejar, Chief of the Communications and Capacity Development Division of the Presidential Communications Office-FOI Project Management Office (PCO FOI-PMO), welcomed the participants and discussed the FOI Program as outlined in Executive Order No. 2, s. 2016.

The eFOI Portal and the FOI Library Project were also discussed and presented to the participants to ensure maximum dissemination of the accessibility and benefit of FOI.

Moreover, DDOSC President Dr. Lilybeth M. Matunhay was in attendance and expressed support for the implementation of FOI initiatives, emphasizing their alignment with the College’s values.

“This FOI initiative resonates deeply with our institutional values, integrity, and inclusivity to ensure that the process of gathering information remains open and responsive to the needs of the people we serve,” Dr. Matunhay shared.

Notably, as of August 2024, DDOSC has processed 93 out of 97 FOI and eFOI requests, with two denied due to invalidity and one closed after the requesting party failed to provide additional information. One request remains under review, pending required documentation from the requestor.

Additionally, Dr. Matunhay joined other SUC Presidents and representatives from the PCO for the ceremonial signing of the Memorandum of Understanding on the implementation of FOI and eFOI initiatives.

Joining Dr. Matunhay was Ms. Janice Hermocilla, the DDOSC FOI focal person, who led the delegation as it continues to champion the principles of transparency and accountability in governance.
