DDOSC spikers rule DSSC Invitational, bring home gold

Showing poise under pressure and dominance on defense, the Davao de Oro State College Men’s Volleyball Team (DDOSC-MVT) stamped its class over the competition to capture the gold medal in the Davao del Sur State College (DSSC) Sports Festival 2025 held at the DSSC Gymnasium in Digos City.

Banking on their superb floor coverage and seamless team chemistry, the DDOSC spikers outlasted a gritty Southern Philippines Agri-Business and Marine and Aquatic School of Technology (SPAMAST) squad in a thrilling championship showdown.

The match tested the team’s mettle, but the DDOSC side displayed composure, particularly in the neck-and-neck fourth set with back-to-back service aces to pull ahead 25-21.

Coached by Jake Andrew D. Colindres, together with Sports Coordinator Normalia Cabugatan-Hassan, the team is composed of Louie John Amistoso, Reynald Silanova, Jainal Atacador, Jhansem Calungsod, Norvin Cabriana, Jay Lapinod, Junard Ogayco, Virgelio Amores, Mario C. Alima Jr., Francis Jay C. Blando IV, and John Kinneth A. Postrado.

In the group stage, DDOSC opened its campaign against its fated finals rival SPAMAST and escaped with a 2-1 victory, before making quick work of the boys from the University of Southeastern Philippines with a sweep in the semi-finals, 2-0.

Organized by DSSC, the invitational provided a valuable litmus test as the DDOSC-MVT gears up for the upcoming Mindanao Association of State Tertiary Schools (MASTS) competitions later this month.

With the win, the team secured the P10,000 cash prize, with SPAMAST going home with P7,000.

“This victory is the result of our athletes’ hard work, discipline, and heart. We’ll carry this momentum and fighting spirit as we represent DDOSC in the MASTS competition,” declared coach Colindres after the competition.
