DDOSC hosts Anti-VAWC Symposium
In its continued commitment to promoting a safe, secure, and gender-sensitive campus environment, the Davao de Oro State College–Campus Safety Management Unit (DDOSC–CSMU) spearheaded a Crime Prevention Symposium entitled “Addressing Anti-Violence Against Women and Children (VAWC) today, November 6, 2025, at the DDOSC Audio-Visual Room.
Serving as the resource speaker, Atty. Mil L. Lorono, Legal Unit Head, discussed the salient provisions of Republic Act No. 9262, or the Anti-Violence Against Women and Their Children Act of 2004, emphasizing the legal remedies and protection mechanisms available to victims of abuse.
He also underscored the crucial role of educational institutions in preventing gender-based violence through awareness campaigns, early intervention, and the establishment of responsive support systems.
In his opening message, Mr. Renato L. Ego-Ogan, Head of the Supply and Property Management Unit, highlighted the importance of fostering a culture of respect and accountability within the college.
“Safety and equality must always go hand in hand. Protecting women and children from any form of violence is not just a legal duty; it is a moral and human responsibility that begins with awareness and collective action,” Mr. Ego-Ogan declared.
The seminar is anchored on Joint Memorandum Circular No. 1, issued by the Civil Service Commission, Department of Health, and Department of Labor and Employment, which mandates government institutions to promote safe and healthy working conditions for all employees.
Through this initiative, the DDOSC–CSMU strengthens its advocacy for the protection and empowerment of women and children, reinforcing the college’s commitment to creating a community where respect, equality, and safety are upheld at all times.
