DdOSC-REC holds Good Research Ethics Training
To strengthen its research ethics review processes, Davao de Oro State College, through its Research Ethics Committee (REC), hosted the Good Research Practice Training on November 13-14, 2025, at the Grand Palm Villas and Hotel in Tagum City.
The activity gathered 50 participants from all DDOSC campuses, including regular and alternate REC members, as part of the College’s continuing efforts to uphold ethical standards and reinforce responsible research conduct across disciplines.
Meanwhile, renowned research ethics experts served as resource speakers for the training, including Dr. Alvin Concha, Chair of the Regional Ethics Monitoring Board (REMB) XI and concurrent Chair of the Department of Health XI Cluster Ethics Research Committee, and Dr. Lucila Lupo, Vice Chair of REMB XI.
In her opening remarks, DdOSC President Lilybeth M. Matunhay, who also previously served as Chair of the DDOSC-REC, reminded the participants of their crucial role in ensuring the integrity of research initiatives in the College.
“It is our responsibility, not only for our colleagues and students, but for everybody to ensure that the principles of research ethics are properly adopted and implemented in our institution.”
The first day of the training focused on applying the core principles of Good Research Practice in evaluating research protocols, emphasizing scientific soundness, participant protection, and ethical compliance.
On the other hand, the second day tackled the identification and resolution of ethical concerns in various types of submissions, including Social Science, Observational, and Interventional studies.
Following the culmination of the sessions, REC Chair Dr. Juanita C. Leopoldo expressed confidence that the strengthened competencies of REC members will enhance the quality, consistency, and timeliness of research ethics review processes across the College.
