ESWMU spearheads climate change symposium

Davao de Oro State College, through the Ecological Solid Waste Management Unit (ESWMU) led by Interim Overseer Engr. Gerick M. Baliog, conducted a Climate Change Symposium yesterday, November 24, 2025, at the DdOSC Audio-Visual Room, as part of the Global Warming and Climate Change Consciousness Week celebration.

Anchored on the theme “Makabagong Kilusan Para sa Klima at Kinabukasan,” the activity highlighted DdOSC’s renewed commitment to sustainability by integrating climate action awareness across both academic programs and administrative initiatives.

Representing Administrative Services Division Director Janice C. Hermosilla, Supply and Property Management Unit Head Renato L. Ego-ogan delivered opening remarks underlining the importance of collective environmental responsibility within the College.

The symposium featured Environment Management Specialist I Ms. Karmina D. Delante from the Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office (PENRO) Davao de Oro as the resource speaker.

She presented current climate change trends, highlighted their impacts on ecosystems and communities, and outlined practical strategies to strengthen institutional and local resilience.

Participants, comprising DdOSC students and employees, actively engaged in the open forum, where they raised concerns on waste management practices, extreme weather events, and the role of individual lifestyle choices in reducing carbon footprints.

To cap the event, the participants committed to adopting greener habits on campus, including proper waste segregation, continuous support for the no single-use plastic policy, and support for upcoming ESWMU-led environmental initiatives.
