DdOSC alumni launch outreach for PDLs at BJMP Montevista
Davao de Oro State College, through its Alumni Affairs and Services Section and Alumni Association Inc., successfully spearheaded its first college-wide civic engagement initiative, PROJECT D.U.A.W. (Duyog, Uban, Amoma nga Way-pili), through a community outreach activity on December 29, 2025, at the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) Montevista District Jail, Montevista, Davao de Oro.
The initiative brought together alumni from all DdOSC campuses in a unified effort to support the rehabilitation and empowerment of Persons Deprived of Liberty (PDLs) by enhancing access to basic needs, educational opportunities, and essential services within the jail facility.
Led by Project Leader Gebermae A. Garnica, MAEd, and Lead Extensionist Jasper T. Egpit, the outreach activity provided compassionate support to the PDLs and created avenues for meaningful engagement through interactive activities such as parlor games and dance presentations.
Meanwhile, Jail Superintendent Carlos G. Lanzuela Jr. addressed the gathering and expressed his heartfelt gratitude to the team for selecting BJMP–Montevista as the beneficiary of Project D.U.A.W., which he believed helped uplift the PDLs’ morale.
As the first unified, alumni-driven outreach initiative across all DdOSC campuses, PROJECT D.U.A.W. marked a significant milestone in strengthening alumni civic engagement and reaffirmed the alumni’s vital role in advancing inclusive development and social transformation.
In her message, Project Leader Garnica emphasized that the initiative aimed not only to extend compassion and support to the PDLs but also to cultivate a strong culture of volunteerism and social responsibility among DdOSC alumni.
