Int’l lecturer inspires Agri students, faculty in futures of agriculture forum
Davao de Oro State College, through its Internationalization Unit, brought together fourth-year Bachelor of Science in Agriculture students and faculty for a Futures of Agriculture forum today, January 22, 2026, at the DdOSC Main Campus Audio-Visual Room.
The event featured a lecture by Dr. Leslie T. Ubaub, Plant Protection lecturer from the University of South Pacific-Samoa Campus.
Dr. Ubaub shared practical strategies for success in agriculture, focusing on three key components: building a village, expanding a network, and practicing continuously.
As a side note, the Davao region-native also provided valuable guidance on securing funding for research and scholarship opportunities.
Drawing on her experience in Samoa, the renowned entomologist discussed how she designed a research study that attracted funding and connected her with international collaborators to broaden her professional network.
In her message, College President Dr. Lilybeth M. Matunhay emphasized agriculture’s evolving role and its growing importance in research and development.
She encouraged students to see beyond traditional farming as a gateway to innovation and global collaboration.
Following the lecture, an open forum provided DdOSCians with the opportunity to ask questions, share insights, and engage in meaningful discussions on research collaboration, funding opportunities, and emerging trends in agriculture.
The forum capped with remarks from DdOSC Futures Thinking and Strategic Foresight Focal Person Lovely Mae F. Deoric, who highlighted the institution’s forward-looking approach, stating “We are no longer just reacting to the challenges of today, but actively designing the possibilities of tomorrow.”
