Siocon NHS, Diosdado Macapagal NHS join DDOSC in promoting reading culture

Students and teachers from Siocon National High School and Diosdado Macapagal National High School joined Davao de Oro State College (DDOSC) on November 13, 2025, for an event that turned reading into an adventure, the “Library Tour and Games: Celebrating National Book Week and Araw ng Pagbasa.” Held at the DDOSC Main Campus, the activity aimed to promote reading and strengthen a culture of literacy among young learners. The event was made possible through the collaboration of the Library and Learning Resource Center and the Extension Services Division.

The day began in the Audio-Visual Room, where participants were warmly welcomed by Mr. Gemar B. Magbutong, MAEd, representing the Director for Academic Services Division, Dr. Pedro P. Raymunde Jr. Meanwhile, Ms. Neziel S. Octaviano, MLIS, College Librarian, expressed her gratitude for the institution’s continuous support in promoting literacy-centered programs.

Adding inspiration to the event, Mr. Jerson M. Renegado, MAEE, delivered an engaging seminar that linked the values of reading with the essence of leadership and personal growth. Through humor and heartfelt reflections, he captivated the students’ attention.

The event continued with a quiz showdown, where teams eagerly collaborated and competed. Every correct answer was met with joyful cheers, and winners were rewarded with cash prizes and school supplies, proving that knowledge truly pays off.

Participants then embarked on a library tour, where they explored DDOSC’s book collection, an experience made possible through the shared efforts of DDOSC and its partner schools. (By Elzevier Albee C. Bestre)
