Records custodians, officials complete 2-day Records Management training

Davao de Oro State College, through its Records Unit (RU) led by Joecel Jan M. Gomez, successfully conducted a two-day In-House Training on Basic Records and Archives Management (BRAM) on November 26–27, 2025, at the Kent Roger Diner in Compostela, Davao de Oro.

The BRAM training gathered 100 Document Control Custodians (DCCs) and employees from various units who are directly involved in records handling and institutional documentation.

On Day 1, RU Head Joecel Jan M. Gomez delivered the opening remarks, emphasizing the crucial role of sound records management in ensuring transparency, institutional memory, and seamless administrative operations.

Serving as the resource speaker for the first day was Training Specialist V Gina M. Papa from the National Archives of the Philippines – Training and Information Division (NAP-TID).

Papa discussed the contents of Republic Act 9470 of 2007 and introduced the participants to the foundational concepts in records and archives management.

Topics included the Records and Archives Management Program (RAMP), records creation and control, records maintenance and use, email management, file management, and hands-on workshop exercises.

In her closing message, Administrative Services Division Director Janice C. Hermosilla underlined the importance of updating and harmonizing office practices to align with national policies, particularly as the College transitions into more digitized systems and future-oriented processes.

Meanwhile, the second day opened with remarks from the Vice President for Academic Affairs, Dr. Gloryjean C. Altamera, who stressed that the College’s sustained investment in capacity building and compliance with NAP directives.

The morning session featured Supervising Records Management Analyst Richel Jane R. Guinto from the NAP Davao, who facilitated a lecture and workshop on Records Disposition Administration.

Moreover, the second session guided participants in developing, maintaining, and implementing disposal schedules that are aligned with national standards.

In the afternoon, Supervising Records Management Analyst Kit P. Toling of the NAP Cebu led the third training session, focusing on advanced principles of records disposition and proper archival processes.

The initiative was capped with the administration of a post-test and evaluation to assess competency gains and gather insights for future capacity-building initiatives.

This activity forms part of the College’s continuing commitment to strengthen its compliance with National Archives of the Philippines (NAP) standards while advancing its Futures Thinking and Strategic Foresight initiatives.
