FAQs

All student researchers and faculty researchers whose studies involve human participants (directly or indirectly) are required to secure Research Ethics Committee (REC) approval before starting data collection. This includes surveys, interviews, focus group discussions, and even studies using existing personal data.

Yes. Even studies that do not involve direct interaction with people may still require review if they use sensitive data, institutional records, or secondary datasets that contain personal or identifiable information. The REC will determine the appropriate level of review needed.

  • Exempt from Review – For minimal-risk studies (e.g., non-sensitive surveys).
  • Expedited Review – For low-risk research requiring review by selected REC members.
  • Full Board Review – For studies with greater ethical risks (e.g., vulnerable groups, sensitive topics, medical/clinical research).

  • DDOSC-REC Form 2.1 – Application for Initial Review Form
  • DDOSC-REC Form 2.2 – Summary Sheet
  • DDOSC-REC Form 2.3 – Protocol Evaluation Form
  • DDOSC-REC Form 2.4 – Informed Consent Evaluation Form
  • DDOSC-REC Form 5.1 – Informed Consent Form (with translations if applicable)
  • Certificate of Approval from the Technical Review, duly signed by the panel (PDF)
  • Research Protocol or Manuscript (PDF)
  • Data collection tools (e.g., questionnaires, interview guides) (PDF)
  • Endorsement from the adviser/department head (PDF)
  • Curriculum Vitae of all proponents (PDF)
  • Other supporting documents, if applicable (e.g., clearance letters, permits) (PDF)

Note: All DDOSC-REC Forms must be submitted in 1 PDF copy (duly signed) and 1 MS Word copy.

Yes. Attendance in the Research Ethics Orientation is a requirement for the initial submission of your application. This ensures all applicants are familiar with the process, requirements, and responsibilities.

Timelines vary depending on the type of review:
  • Exempt: Within 3 days upon receipt of the protocol package
  • Expedited: 7–14 days upon receipt of the protocol package
  • Full Board: 14–30 days upon receipt of the protocol package

*Incomplete submissions may cause delays, so please ensure all requirements are complete.

No. Conducting research involving human participants without prior REC approval is considered unethical and may invalidate your study results.

No. There is no payment required for DDOSC student researchers.

All applications must be submitted online via email only to rec@ddosc.edu.ph. The REC does not accept hard copies of submissions.

Important: Once you have submitted your protocol package via email, please do not reply to the same email thread, as this will reset the queue during pre-assessment. If you need to update your submission or send additional documents, please send them in a new and separate email.
