Program DASIG (Delivering Assistance for a Sustainable and Inclusive Growth) conducted the KALIGTASAN-PROTECT extension activity on September 4, 2026, at Sitio Cambudlot, Barangay San Miguel, Compostela, Davao de Oro, to strengthen disaster preparedness, community resilience, and crime prevention among residents, parents, and Barangay Peacekeeping Action Teams (BAPO). The activity was implemented under Project IGMAT (Incorporating Good Management and Technological Assistance for Peace and Development) through lectures and practical discussions on emergency preparedness, disaster response, and community-based crime prevention.

The activity was held in Cambudlot due to the community’s vulnerability to natural hazards, particularly flooding because of its proximity to local waterways. It aimed to bring practical safety knowledge closer to households and local stakeholders.

Project Leader Maida Mae B. Calpo, MSCrim, opened the activity with an overview of Project IGMAT and Program DASIG. She was joined by Lead Extensionist Diosdado H. Cruz, Jr. and Extensionist Baby P. Grace Postrano, MSCJ.

Calpo led the first lecture on disaster resilience and emergency preparedness. She discussed the importance of family and community readiness during natural disasters. She also highlighted the need for gender-inclusive disaster preparedness, particularly for women, children, and older persons.

Cruz facilitated the second lecture on disaster preparedness and response. He focused on earthquake safety and introduced the “Drop, Cover, and Hold On” procedure. He also discussed pre-disaster planning, emergency kits, and immediate safety measures during earthquakes.

Postrano led the third session on community-based crime prevention and barangay safety. Her presentation, “Bantay Komunidad: Modern Crime Threats and Practical Crime Prevention Strategies,” focused on the role of residents and BAPO in keeping the community safe.

She introduced the O.P.R.R. approach: Observe, Prevent, Respond, and Report. Participants learned how to identify suspicious activities, report incidents accurately, and coordinate safely with local authorities.

The activity ended with the awarding of Certificates of Appreciation to the resource speakers and Certificates of Participation to the attendees. A group photo was also taken to mark the collaboration between the extension team and the Sitio Cambudlot community.
