DASIG sa Panglawas: Project SALIG promotes health, nutrition in Sitio Cambudlot, San Miguel

Project SALIG: Support and Adopt Local Individuals in GIDA, through OPLAN: BUSOG, NGITI, SIGLA, was conducted on September 4, 2026, at Sitio Cambudlot, San Miguel, Compostela, Davao de Oro. The extension activity was organized as an initiative to provide meaningful assistance, promote healthy living, encourage active participation, and foster community empowerment among individuals in geographically isolated and disadvantaged areas (GIDA). The activity is part of DdOSC-Main’s banner program, “Program DASIG: Delivering Assistance for a Sustainable and Inclusive Growth: A Community Empowerment Extension.”

The program formally commenced with a prayer by an audio-visual presentation (AVP) that helped set the context and purpose of the activity. The participants were then welcomed through the opening remarks and rationale delivered by Ms. April Rose Dianne A. Villaro, Extension Services Section Head, who emphasized the importance of collaborative efforts in addressing the needs of the community and promoting sustainable and inclusive development.

To encourage participation and create a lively atmosphere, a community dance was conducted. This activity provided an opportunity for the participants and extensionists to interact, enjoy, and build rapport with one another. It was followed by the presentation of the extensionists, allowing the community to become familiar with the individuals who would facilitate the different activities throughout the program.

One of the major components of the activity was the health and nutrition session entitled “Power Up Your Plate: The Secrets of Healthy Eating,” facilitated by Mr. Jomarie G. Turtoga as Resource Speaker. The session focused on strengthening the participants’ awareness of proper nutrition and healthy eating practices. It highlighted the importance of making informed food choices and developing habits that contribute to overall health and well-being.

This was followed by the interactive activity “This or That: Healthy or Unhealthy Edition,” facilitated by Mr. Allan James L. Bersabal. The activity encouraged participants to identify and distinguish between healthy and unhealthy choices through an engaging and participatory approach. It provided an opportunity for the participants to apply the concepts discussed during the nutrition session while making the learning experience enjoyable and relatable.

The program then proceeded to recreational activities, facilitated by Mr. Pedro P. Raymunde Jr., Mr. Jomarie G. Turtoga, and Mr. Allan James L. Bersabal. These activities promoted physical activity, teamwork, social interaction, and enjoyment among the participants. More importantly, the recreational component reinforced the idea that an active lifestyle can contribute to physical, mental, and social well-being.

After the activities, certificates were given to recognize the participation and contributions of individuals involved in the successful implementation of the extension activity. A photo opportunity followed, documenting the meaningful engagement and collaboration between the community and the extension team.

The activity also included a feeding program, which served as one of the significant components of OPLAN: BUSOG, NGITI, SIGLA. It complemented the discussions on proper nutrition by providing direct assistance to the beneficiaries and reinforcing the importance of adequate and nutritious food for health and development.

The program concluded with closing remarks delivered by Mr. Pedro P. Raymunde Jr., Director of the Academic Services Division. The closing message highlighted the value of continued cooperation, community involvement, and extension initiatives in creating sustainable and inclusive opportunities for communities in GIDA areas.

Overall, Project SALIG: OPLAN BUSOG, NGITI, SIGLA successfully brought together education, health promotion, recreation, community engagement, and direct assistance in one meaningful extension activity. Through the collective efforts of the extensionists and community participants, the program provided not only information and services but also an avenue for building stronger relationships and encouraging healthier and more empowered communities. The activity demonstrated the commitment of the institution and its extension team to bringing relevant and sustainable programs closer to communities that need them most.
