The Davao de Oro State College (DdOSC) Entrepreneurship Department successfully conducted Project GIYA: Gearing towards Innovation, Yield-Maximization, and Technology Advancement Training Session One on July 24, 2026, in Sitio Cambudlot, San Miguel, under the theme “Ang Entrepreneur Sulod Kanamo: Pagdiskubre sa Imong Abilidad sa Pagnegosyo ug Pagpalambo sa Atong Komunidad.”

The training aimed to unlock the entrepreneurial potential of community residents by helping them transform everyday challenges into viable business opportunities while cultivating an entrepreneurial mindset that supports local economic development.

The program was spearheaded by Project Leader Dr. April Rose Dianne A. Villaro, together with resource speakers Dr. Juanita C. Leopoldo and Dr. Jennifer T. Pelegrino, with the full support and coordination of the DdOSC Entrepreneurship Department.

Residents and community members of Sitio Cambudlot actively participated in the training, fostering an engaging and collaborative learning environment centered on grassroots entrepreneurship, innovation, and community empowerment.

During the morning session, Dr. Villaro presented the Community Blueprint for Growth, highlighting the entrepreneurial formula, “Oportunidad + Ideya + Aksyon = Kita + Tabang sa Uban.” She emphasized that establishing a business does not necessarily require substantial capital but rather the right entrepreneurial mindset, coupled with honesty, discipline, hard work, and decisive action.

Following this, Dr. Leopoldo discussed strategies for identifying local business opportunities by encouraging participants to view problems as opportunities, encapsulated in the phrase “Ang problema kay oportunidad.” She introduced a practical framework—Problema → Solusyon → Produkto → Negosyo—which demonstrated how local resources, existing skills, and community needs can be transformed into sustainable livelihood opportunities. She also shared a simple idea-filtering method to help participants evaluate and refine their business concepts.

The final learning session was facilitated by Dr. Pelegrino, who delivered Topic Three, “Pwede Pud Ko Magnegosyo: Ang Sketchbook sa Negosyante: Usa Ka Yano Nga Giya sa Pagplano.” Her presentation encouraged participants to overcome the fear of starting a business by simplifying the planning process. She explained the three essential components of a successful enterprise—foundation, mechanics, and results—and guided participants through practical business planning, self-assessment, and goal setting.

The program also featured interactive learning activities, including Entrepreneur Bingo and Business Opportunity Mapping, where participants worked collaboratively to identify community needs, analyze available resources, and develop practical business ideas suited to their locality.

The successful implementation of Project GIYA Training Session One reinforced DdOSC’s commitment to community empowerment by equipping residents with practical entrepreneurial knowledge, skills, and tools that promote self-reliance, sustainable livelihood opportunities, and inclusive local development.
